Math tutoring that fits Los Angeles schools

Whether your child attends an LAUSD school, a charter or a private school, tutoring follows their own school's course and calendar. Sessions are scheduled in Pacific Time, including evenings after school and sports.

The largest district in the city is Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Like every California public school, its math courses follow the California Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. California districts use either the traditional sequence (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2) or the integrated sequence (Integrated Math I, II and III), which mixes algebra, geometry and statistics in each year. Tutoring follows whichever pathway your child's school uses.

CAASPP (Smarter Balanced) Mathematics

The state math test in grades 3–8 and grade 11.

AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Precalculus

Offered at many California high schools, with exams each May.

Digital SAT

Taken by many students applying to colleges that consider test scores.

UC and CSU math requirements

For admission to the University of California and California State University, students need three years of college-preparatory mathematics (area "c" of the a–g requirements), and four are recommended. Keeping grades strong through Algebra 2 or Integrated Math III matters for that.

How online math tutoring works in Los Angeles

  1. Step 1

    A free 45-minute diagnostic

The tutor works through the unit your child's class is on right now and finds where any gap started.

  2. Step 2

A written plan within a day

Which topics need repair, how many weeks that takes, and what the first month covers. It is yours either way.

  3. Step 3

    The same tutor every session

55-minute sessions on this week's actual homework, with the student solving and the tutor stopping them at the step that goes wrong.

  4. Step 4

    Recordings and parent reports

Every session is recorded, with notes in your dashboard within two hours, and parents get a written progress report every two weeks.

Questions parents ask

Do you have tutors in Los Angeles?

Tutoring is online, so Los Angeles students work with a screened tutor from home. Sessions are scheduled in Pacific Time and follow your child's own school course.

Does Algebra 1 taken in middle school count toward UC's math requirement?

It can. The University of California counts math courses taken in seventh and eighth grade if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses. Ask your child's high school how it records them.

Is a good AP Calculus score enough for UC's math requirement?

Not by itself. A score of 3 or higher on AP Calculus AB or BC satisfies two years of the three-year requirement, but not geometry, which still has to be completed.

My child's school uses Integrated Math. Can you tutor that?

Yes. Integrated Math I, II and III cover the same content as Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2, arranged differently. Share the course materials and unit calendar in the first session and tutoring follows them.

Does tutoring help with the CAASPP math test?

Tutoring follows the California standards the CAASPP is built on, so regular sessions support it. In the weeks before the test, sessions can also practice its question formats.

Is tutoring in person or online?

Online. Every session is live and 1-on-1 on a shared whiteboard, so your child works with the same teacher from home, wherever you are in the US.

Will the tutor follow my child's school course?

Yes. Share the syllabus and unit calendar in the first session. Course work maps to your state's standards and your district's adopted curriculum, and sessions stay a little ahead of class.

When are sessions available?

Monday to Saturday across Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time, including evening slots after practice. 1-on-1 times are set around your student; group classes meet at fixed batch times. Reschedule up to four hours before a session at no cost.
