Online AP Calculus and AP Precalculus tutoring, 1-on-1

One tutor works with your child every session, following their school's AP class unit by unit and practicing free-response questions the way the exam scores them. It starts with a free 45-minute diagnostic, then 1-on-1 sessions from $59 each — no enrollment fee and no semester contract.

  • Same tutor every session
  • Follows your school's unit calendar
  • Released College Board free-response practice
  • Recording and notes after every session

Which AP math course is your child taking?

Tutoring follows the College Board course units below. The weights show how much of the exam score each unit carries, which is how session time is prioritized in the weeks before May.

AP Calculus AB

A first-year college calculus course: limits, derivatives, integrals and differential equations.

AP Calculus AB units and exam weighting
UnitExam weight
1. Limits and Continuity10–12%
2. Differentiation: Definition and Fundamental Properties10–12%

7. Differential Equations6–12%
8. Applications of Integration10–15%

Weights are each unit's share of the exam score.

AP Calculus BC

Everything in AB, plus parametric, polar and vector functions, infinite series, and extra integration techniques.

The BC exam also reports an AB subscore.

AP Precalculus

Functions from every angle — the course that makes calculus feel familiar instead of new.

Scoring
Multiple choice 62.5%, free response 37.5%; final score 1–5

Because half of every calculus exam is calculator-free and free-response answers are scored on the working, not just the final number, sessions split time between fast non-calculator skills and writing complete, justified solutions.

How AP tutoring works

  1. Step 1

    A free 45-minute diagnostic

The tutor works through the unit your class is on right now and finds where the gaps start. Often it is an algebra or precalculus skill from a year earlier, not the calculus itself.

  2. Step 2

    A written plan you keep

Which units need repair, which are secure, and how the weeks between now and the May exam are divided. It is yours whether you enroll or not.

  3. Step 3

Weekly 1-on-1 sessions with the same tutor

Each 55-minute session follows your school's unit calendar and ends with timed practice. The recording and notes land in your dashboard within two hours.

  4. Step 4

Free-response practice, scored like the real exam

Released College Board free-response questions, marked against the published scoring guidelines so you see exactly which lines earn points and which lose them.

A free-response question, worked the way it is scored

Particle motion appears on the calculus free-response section almost every year. Here is the kind of question a session works through, with the reasoning written out as the scoring guidelines expect.

A particle moves along the x-axis with velocity v(t) = t² − 4t + 3 for 0 ≤ t ≤ 5. (a) On what interval is the particle moving to the left? (b) Find the total distance traveled from t = 0 to t = 3.

(a)

v(t) = (t − 1)(t − 3), so v(t) < 0 for 1 < t < 3. The particle moves left on 1 < t < 3 because the velocity is negative there. That final reason is part of the answer: an interval with no justification usually loses the point.

(b)

Distance is the integral of speed, |v(t)|, so split the integral where v changes sign at t = 1. An antiderivative is F(t) = t³/3 − 2t² + 3t, with F(0) = 0, F(1) = 4/3 and F(3) = 0.

∫₀³ |v(t)| dt = [F(1) − F(0)] − [F(3) − F(1)] = 4/3 + 4/3 = 8/3

The most common mistake is computing ∫₀³ v(t) dt = 0, which is the displacement, not the distance. Writing the absolute value and the split at t = 1 shows the reader you know the difference.

Questions parents ask about AP math tutoring

What is the difference between AP Calculus AB and BC?

BC covers everything in AB plus two extra units — parametric, polar and vector-valued functions, and infinite sequences and series — and extra techniques such as integration by parts, partial fractions, improper integrals, Euler's method and logistic growth. BC is roughly one and a half AB courses in the same year, and the BC exam also reports an AB subscore.

Is AP Precalculus required before AP Calculus?

No, but it helps. Calculus leans constantly on function behavior, exponentials, logarithms and trigonometry, which is exactly what AP Precalculus covers. Students who struggle in calculus usually have a precalculus gap, so the diagnostic checks for it first.

When should my child start AP tutoring?

Starting with the school year keeps tutoring a little ahead of class, which turns lessons into revision. For exam-focused review, starting 8 to 12 weeks before the May exam leaves time to work through several full sets of released free-response questions.

How many sessions a week are needed?

Two 55-minute sessions a week during the year is a good starting point, moving to four a week in the weeks before the exam. The diagnostic gives you a number for your child, and you can change it month to month.

Do you use real AP exam questions?

Yes. Free-response practice uses questions the College Board has released, marked against their published scoring guidelines, alongside the unit your school is teaching that week.

Can the tutor follow my school's AP class?

Yes. Share the syllabus and unit calendar in the first session, and sessions are sequenced a little ahead of class so school time becomes review rather than first exposure.

Is a calculator used in the sessions?

Both. A graphing calculator is allowed on part of the multiple-choice section and part of the free-response section, and the rest is calculator-free, so sessions practice both kinds of question.

What if we want a different tutor?

Ask, and the remaining sessions carry over to the new tutor along with the plan, so nothing restarts from zero.
